Going home is never easy for Jackie as she faces her past and looks to the future. This film provides a unique insight into the lives of one Aboriginal Family over five generations and how government polices continue to impact on Aboriginal people today.

Ultimately, the film celebrates the Trapman family with their inspiring story symbolising the strength, dignity and resilience of many Aboriginal people in the face of adversity.

Following the film screenings we invite you to join us for an exclusive Q&A session with the filmmakers and lead talent from each film.

Aunty Margo (3 mins)

This is HER story.

Aunty Margo follows Margaret Beaven, a Worimi Elder, as she details the Stolen Generation in which her siblings were removed prior to her birth.

Reciting a poem, she wrote to share her experience growing up as a part of the Stolen Generation, Aunty Margo journeys into her adulthood and her reconnection with her siblings. Set in the beautiful wetlands of Karuah, the story is visualised through her animated painting of the area and the mission in which she grew up.

Aunty Margo hopes to share her story to raise awareness of the impact of the Stolen Generation as well as support her own healing journey.

With the support of Adriana and her partner Joel Wennitong of Blackchilli Productions, Thou-Walla, Deadly Streaming Project and through funding from the Port Stephens Council Grants Program this was made possible.

“Well, the rest is history and here we are today Telling our story of being taken away”

I Walk, I Run, I Drum (5 mins)

A celebration of traditional culture and community meeting rhythm and athletics.

I Walk, I Run, I Drum is a film about a unique annual event held in the beautiful, natural bushland of Port Stephens. The workshop encourages people to embrace the deep connection between rhythm and the environment as they run, drum and celebrate their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Hosted and run by Bronwyn White, the Hunter Regional Development Officer for Athletics NSW, in collaboration with the Port Stephens Council, the event, I walk I run I drum, helps celebrate the amazing rural aspects of Port Stephens and the interest of many of the locals to keep active.

The Burning Mountain (6 mins)

Synopsis: Deep in the Hunter Valley Shire stands an age-old mountain that burns within.

The Burning Mountain explores a naturally burning coal seam located in the upper Hunter Valley. Geologists state that it has unaffected the surrounding environment.

However, it has left a lasting impact on the community of Wingen.

Beyond the Red Zone (5 mins)

Over two years since the Williamtown community was made aware that they were living in a contamination area, and yet they are still suffering.

On the 4th September 2015, residents were made aware of ‘The Red Zone’ through a local newspaper. The area was contaminated due to a suspected filtration of chemicals from the RAFF base. Fifty people within the area have been diagnosed with cancer in recent years which may be linked to the chemicals within their water.

Beyond the Red Zone follows a resident within the community and two members of the area. The residents are in a state of turmoil with what comes next in terms of rehabilitation and compensation for their lives and the land.

Beyond the Red Zone delves into the injustices surrounding a contamination in the Port Stephens area. It has been over two years since residents were first made aware of the contamination, and the community is still affected.

Following the film we invite you to join us for an exclusive Q&A session with the filmmakers Ian Hamilton and Dr Anna Kelly, lead talent Jacki Trapman
