The Real Film Festival (RFF) 2019 begins in Newcastle and will pop-up in a town near you!

The newest documentaries and independent short and feature length films based on real events from around the region and the globe will be screened in various Hunter region locations. Specialised professional development film programs will offer young and emerging filmmakers and the Hunter region’s screen industry sector valuable skills and networks.

The Festival program comprises of screenings of local, national and international documentaries and true stories. RFF provides a platform to celebrate diversity on screen and behind the camera. Skills building workshops, a Short Film Competition and community events that provide opportunities for the whole community to be involved in - Watch, Learn, Create and Connect!

If you’d like to share your true story on the big screen, be a part of the festival then enter your film before 4 October 2019.

An initiative of Screen Hunter, The Real Film Festival (RFF) was first held in Newcastle in 2012, and has grown into one of Australia’s leading independent documentary film festivals appealing to increasingly socially conscious and globally aware audiences.

RFF is made up of components which support independent filmmaking talent, engages diverse communities in cultural production, and stimulate audiences through this homegrown, internationally recognised film festival.
